RE-WASTE
RE-WASTE
Today, we are facing the waste problem intensely. That’s why it’s important to take action now more than ever. Therefore, we have conducted the project Re-Waste in cooperation with the Swedish Consulate of İstanbul, to discuss ways to reduce waste and manage the present waste with the help of 5R-Waste-Hierarchy: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose and Recycle, and have a look at the good examples. During our project, we held an exhibition at Ikea Meydan AVM and Museum Gazhane and four workshops.
WORKSHOPS:
Bokashi Compost:
Compost is the controlled transformation of organic waste into a rich fertilizer mixture through specific processes. We can summarize it as the process of returning to the soil what we have taken from it. Nil Ormanlı Balpınar held a workshop where we talked about compost and learned how to make bokashi compost.
Basics of Zero-Waste Living:
It is possible to change our consumption habits, abandon the throwaway culture and live without the accumulation of waste! But how? In this workshop, we looked for answers for these questions and discussed reuse, consumption reduction, separation and transformation of waste with Ceren Özcan Tatar.
Upcycling the Fabric Waste:
The textile industry is one of the industries with the highest rate of pollution on the planet? But sustainable solutions are also possible with waste materials! We came together with Roksan Sarfati who works on sustainable textiles to talk about upcycling and to make bags out of old t-shirts.
Natural Dye Making:
Did you know that it is possible to make ink out of vegetables and fruits, even flowers, leaves, roots and spices? During this workshop we came together with Birnur Temel Birtane, and learned how to make natural inks and made sketches with natural dyes.
