PARTICIPATORY AND SAFE YOUTH ACTIVISM
PARTICIPATORY AND SAFE YOUTH ACTIVISM
The “Participatory and Safe Youth Activism” Project which is funded by the Sabancı Foundation Grant Program in partnership with BİLGİ ÇOÇA aims to support children who defend their rights, especially in the areas of climate and ecology and ensure their active participation in social processes.
Throughout the project we are working to empower both children and youth and especially adults working with activist children based on a child rights-based approach.
What have we done within the project?
- As part of the project, we conducted a literature review in order to identify the foundations for young activists’ active participation in social processes, and then organized a workshop with young activists and experts in the field
- In September/October 2022, we organized a “Participatory and Safe Youth Activism Camp” with about 15 young activists working in the field of climate and nature.
- We prepared a peer education program based on the needs that the youth members expressed during the camp. We have developed an animated movie to raise awareness of the rights of young people and a card game that includes cases in three areas (participation, security, organization-solidarity) that they need to support their well-being while carrying out their studies, in order to be used in the peer education program.
What are we planning to do?
- As part of the peer education program, we will organize the training of trainers with 20 young people. 20 young people who have received the trainer training will organize peer education workshops with a total of 150 young people.
- We will create a guide for working with youth-child activists for adults. This guide will consist of “Principles for Working with Children and Youth Activists”, child safety, child protection, children’s rights. It will also be supported by online meetings to be organized with the participation of at least 100 adults and 10 non-governmental organizations who are working with young people working and wanting to work in the field of climate and ecology.
