The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality BIRD MIGRATION EVENT
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality BIRD MIGRATION EVENT
Every year, hundreds of thousands of bird species migrate from the southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere in the spring. The route of many of these birds passes through Istanbul and reaches Africa and Europe. Due to its geographical location, Turkey is on a very important migration route for migratory birds and has a special importance especially for species that glide in the direction of Asia-Africa-Europe.
With hundreds of flocks of eagles, falcons, hawks, vultures, storks, swans, flamingos, pelicans, cranes, swallows, dozens of bird species passing through Istanbul, the Bosphorus hosts a great feast in every migration period.
In order to celebrate this migration period, Istanbul Park, Garden and Green Areas Department, Urban Ecological Systems Directorate hosted bird migration events with the help of Roots & Shoots TR, IMM, WWF, Doğa Derneği and Trakus. We came together in Atatürk City Forest and Büyük Çamlıca Grove for bird watching and and variety of workshops that appeal to all age groups.
