BIODIVERSITY VILLAGE: A GUIDE OF NATURE ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN

BIODIVERSITY VILLAGE: A GUIDE OF NATURE ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN

Would you like to get to know the biodiversity around us, protect it and even take a step further and create environmental conditions for a richer biodiversity in your surroundings? We have created the “Biodiversity Village Activity Guide” as a resource for teachers who work with children to create spaces to support the biodiversity around us.

The guide is based on the four steps of Roots & Shoots: Get Inspired, Observe, Take Action and Celebrate! Get started by identifying areas close to us that can support wildlife but contain relatively fewer species and a poorer ecosystem, and pick one of the areas we identified. Get inspired and observe through activities where you can discover how nature functions. Identify the needs of the area and plan how you can support it by mimicking nature. Take action to transform the area into one that can host a more diverse ecosystem, inspired by your observations. Celebrate the outcomes of your actions at the end of each project by the activities designed to find out the effects of your actions on biodiversity.

Through the projects in the guide, we will ultimately create a “a village of biodiversity”, providing spaces for the “residents” of all kinds. With each new project that is complementary to the others, we will witness the biodiversity village will thrive into hosting various species more than ever before.

Please remember that the activities in this guide can be adapted to any age group. It is possible to design the projects with the active and meaningful participation of the children, adapting the activities to your own conditions.
